Fertilizer use is considered to be the most important and major factor in crop production. Achieving self-sufficiency in food production in the context of the growing population has become a major challenge for the country at present. And the most essential element in food production is the use of fertilizers. Farmers are currently heavily dependent on various chemical fertilizers for crop production, which increases the cost of crop production and exposes farmers to financial loss. In this case, instead of expensive chemical fertilizers, the use of bio-fertilizers which produced in the domestic environment with readily available materials can greatly save the cost of crop production process and benefit the farmers financially. On the one hand, the government has been taking various initiatives to create awareness among the farmers about the use of organic fertilizers in crop production, as well as the government, various private organizations within the country have been providing various training support to the rural farmers to use organic fertilizers in crop production.
As part of its continuity, after the establishment of one of the main non-governmental voluntary organizations of Bangladesh, “Disability Inquisition Activities – DIA“- has been conducting public awareness activities through multi-faceted trainings and seminars on the production process of organic fertilizers and its use in crops among the country’s rural population especially the marginalized farmers under the program titled ‘Using of Organic Fertilizer in Crop Production‘ adapted in 2012. Activities of the organization are as follows:—
• Providing various raw materials and other materials for the production of organic fertilizers free of cost to the rural farmers every year.
• Organizing various seminars with rural farmers to increase awareness among farmers on the use of bio-fertilizers which produced with readily available materials in complete domestic environment instead of expensive chemical fertilizers in crop production.
• Organization of hands-on training programs for farmers on how to produce organic fertilizers with readily available materials in a complete domestic environment with the coordination of upazila level government agriculture officers.
• Organization of public awareness programs by organizing various seminars and yard meetings to properly present the benefits of using readily available organic fertilizers instead of expensive chemical fertilizers in crop production.
• In addition to the above activities, conducting other more diverse activities on the use of organic fertilizers for safe crop production.
